Volunteers Needed

We Need Your Helping Hands!

Volunteer Recruitment Drive
Sunday, Jan. 22nd, in Wrigley Hall

Do your goals for 2012 include volunteer service to others?  As you set your intentions for 2012, please consider one of the many volunteer positions available at CCU. We have service opportunities on a weekly, monthly, yearly, and as-needed basis so you can choose from a variety of positions that will easily fit into your schedule.  Aline King will be in Wrigley Hall after both services with a complete listing of volunteer teams and service descriptions. Listed below are teams in need of help.  Please stop by the table in Wrigley Hall or call Rebecca in the bookstore or at 619-280-2501, ext. 111.  Thank you for your service!

Volunteer Opportunities

CCU is looking to expand our teams of volunteers.  New teams have been formed and volunteers on existing teams need time off or are ready to retire.  Stop by the bookstore to see a complete listing of teams and service descriptions.  We have  positions available on a weekly, monthly, yearly, and as-needed basis so you can choose from a variety of volunteer positions that will easily fit into your schedule.  As you can see from the list below, we have a special need for Welcome Podium & Usher/Greeter volunteers.   Will you please consider volunteering for three months on either of these teams?  Please contact Rebecca Coiner at 619-280-2501, ext. 101.

Colina del Sol Park Thanks CCU Volunteers

Once again six volunteers from CCU assisted Colina del Sol Park on 54th Street at their annual Halloween Carnival.  Over 100 children participated in games and a costume contest.  Our volunteers had a grand time assisting and enjoying the fun.  Check with Aline King at 619-280-2501, ext. 133, if you would like to join us in the spring for the egg hunt and other activities.  Fingerprinting with the City of San Diego and a liking for fun with kids are the only requirements!

CCU’s Participation in the
Interfaith Shelter Network 2012

Since we did not get the dates we requested for 2012, CCU will act as a support church in this next shelter season - we will fill in as needed if other church organizers call us for assistance.  Smaller congregations often need our help.  So far the following persons have provided help in time, talent or treasure:  Mike and Sharla Barry, Audrey and Bill Pitts,  Rob and Jacquie Hardesty, Pat Stadtmiller, Butch Davis, Rebecca  and Chris Humble, Jerry Smith and Aline King.  Thank you very much for your dedicated service!!  There are many ways to help!  Call Aline at 619-280-2501, ext. 133, for more information.

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who has donated towards our new Wrigley Hall roof!  We are   moving towards our goal.  Please be praying with us to reach it.  We welcome all sizes of contributions - $10 pays for a square foot.  You can donate by cash, check, credit card, and Pay Pal via the web.

Western Service Workers Association
Thanks Christ Church Unity!!

The November 2011 food drive for WSWA was very successful with contributions toward 27 turkeys, 50 pounds of beans, many canned goods, peanut butter and rice.  10 blankets were also contributed. The families and volunteers are very thankful for your support.

2012 Food Drives and School Supply Drives Continue for the 4th year

Please mark your calendars for WSWA food drives in February, May, August and November.  The August drive will include backpacks and school supplies.  The November drive will include turkeys and blankets.

WSWA (Western Service Workers Association) is an all volunteer organization in effect since 1977 to assist low wage restaurant and hotel workers and other service positions to support emergency needs in an 11 point service program. This can include emergency food, blankets and clothing. The service center also needs support for monthly medical and legal workshops.  Call Aline King, at 619-280-2501, ext. 133 with ???s.

Other Ideas

Offer someone a ride to church on Sundays, classes, or for a special event during the coming year.

Surprise someone with a ticket to the Jubilee in January.

Volunteer at the church in honor of someone.

Sound Board Operators

We are looking for some volunteers to learn how to run our sound board during our Sunday services. Some "techie" skills appreciated but not required. You will be trained in all that you need to do. We are looking for people to handle either the early or late service (or both!), which means we need 4-6 people including alternates. If you feel called to serve in this way, please contact John Fistere at JFistere@cox.net.

Youth Education Volunteers

We have a Youth and Family Ministry as we know that sometimes we need the help of others with our children. Some say it takes a village to raise a child. Become a part of our “village”- our Youth and Family Ministry – we have need for volunteers. You will be provided with all the information and materials you need. You will never be alone as we are dedicated to keeping our children safe by having two adults in our classrooms. We need classroom teachers and assistants. You can commit to the level of involvement in which you are comfortable. We also need for helpers beyond the classroom, volunteers who can work on service or social projects or transportation are also welcome to join us. Please see our Youth and Family Ministry Director (619) 280-2501 Ext. 114for more information.

Transportation Volunteers

There are people who would like to attend church but have no transportation...

Could you give one of your neighbors a ride to church? We have members who need transportation to church. You can volunteer for one or more Sundays a month for the service of your choice. Please give Rebecca at the front desk a call, 619-280-2501, ext. 101if you can help!
